Laser Hair Removal: What to expect…

After years of waxing, shaving, plucking and various other treatments many men and women decide to take the plunge and try Laser Hair Removal at our Clinic here in Droitwich, Worcestershire.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a long term method of hair removal.

It is a relatively comfortable treatment where a Laser damages active hair from the root.

At Outline Clinic we use the Candela GentleMax Laser, the latest technology in Medical Grade Lasers.

This particular Laser releases a cryogen cooling gas a split second before the laser pulses, making it much more comfortable.

What also makes this Laser special is it contains two lasers inside one machine, so we are able to treat all skin types.

How does it work?

The laser works by focusing on the pigment in the hair (the darker the better!) and the pigment absorbs the laser light, travelling down the follicle and damaging the hair from the root.

How many treatments will I need?

Treatments are recommended every 6 weeks, generally you would need 8-10 treatments to remove the hair, and ‘top up’ treatments there after.

This is because of the hair growth cycle; not all the hair is ready at any one time, meaning they all need to be zapped at different stages!

After the treatment the hair grows back and falls out within 7-10 days and you are hair free for up to 6 weeks, sometimes longer!

A bonus is you can shave in-between treatments! – Hallelujah no more having to grow hair for waxing!

Will it help my ingrown hairs?

Yes, the laser will still damage ingrown hairs, we can also recommend clinically proven exfoliators to help to lift them out afterwards.

Many patients who suffer with ingrown hairs and conditions such as folliculitis, where the follicle becomes inflamed and sometimes infected  benefit from laser hair removal, as the laser stops the hair from irritating the surrounding skin.

Hyper pigmented areas caused by hair irritation can also improve from laser hair removal treatment.

Important information:

Its important to stay out of the sun and refrain from using fake tanning products whilst having laser hair removal treatments, this is because the laser focus’ on pigment and can burn the skin if pigment is there which usually isn’t.
