Skin Pigmentation & Brown Birthmarks

How the Laser Works

We use a Q-Switched laser, with 2 different wavelengths, for treating sun damage and excessive pigmentation in the skin.

The energy from the laser breaks up the melanin pigment in the skin causing the lesion to lighten with each treatment. Some skin problems, such as freckles or light sun spots, will be removed in just 1-2 treatments, and other darker lesions and brown birthmarks may take up to 5 sessions to fade.

The laser does not damage surrounding tissues and the risk of scarring is very minimal with this laser treatment. It is usual to leave 6-8 weeks between treatments.

We recommend using an SPF of 30 or higher during and after treatment, as sun exposure will cause the lesions to recur. Sun  and Age spots will also recur in other untreated areas, and these will require future treatment.

Skin Tightening

How the Laser Works

By gentle heating of the skin, it is possible to cause the collagen fibres in the skin to "remodel" and regenerate. Production of collagen in the treated area enables the skin to thicken and tighten. This is a gradual process, and happens over a period of months.

It is usual to have a course of 6 treatments, spaced one month apart.

The Nd:Yag laser is used to heat the dermis to a certain temperature and this temperature is maintained for 5-10 minutes. The skin cools down quickly after treatment, and there is no "downtime" associated with skin tightening.

The areas that will yield the best results are:
